The Story Behind Our Bestselling Rubber Base — 10 Years of GLOSS

The Story Behind Our Bestselling Rubber Base — 10 Years of GLOSS

If you ask a nail technician who’s been in the chair for the last decade what their go-to rubber base is, there’s a good chance the answer is GLOSS Premium Rubber Base. It didn’t happen by accident.

For over ten years, one single formula has quietly defined our brand — outselling every other product in our catalog, year after year, across every continent we ship to. This is the story behind it.

2015: The Year the Formula Was Born

GLOSS was founded by Marharyta Kovalenko, a Ukrainian entrepreneur and beauty professional with years of hands-on experience working alongside nail technicians. The problem she kept hearing from working techs was simple: retention. Clients’ manicures were lifting at the cuticle within two weeks. Tips chipped. Builder gel snapped. Nail oils made bases lift before the second appointment.

The market had plenty of rubber bases. None of them held up consistently across natural nail types — from thin and peeling to oily and resistant. So our team set out to formulate one that did.

The result, finalized in 2015, was Premium Rubber Base — a medium-thick, self-leveling rubber base with strong adhesion, no shrinkage, and a forgiving work-time that gave techs control over apex and structure. It cured cleanly under any standard UV/LED lamp. And, critically, it didn’t yellow.

Why Techs Started Talking About It

Three things made GLOSS Premium Rubber Base different from what was on the shelf at the time:

  • Self-leveling without losing structure. Most rubber bases either ran into the cuticle or held shape but needed shaping with a brush. Our formula self-leveled into a smooth surface while still building enough apex to reinforce natural nails.
  • Genuine retention on oily nails. Combined with proper prep (dehydrator + primer), retention held 3-4 weeks on the toughest nail plates. For working salons, that meant fewer comeback fills and happier clients.
  • No yellowing. The formula stayed clear and stable under both UV and LED. Light shades on top, French manicures, and natural-look overlays kept their color.

Word travels fast in the nail community. Within months, Premium Rubber Base became the most-reordered product in our catalog — first in Ukraine, then across Russia, Kazakhstan, the broader European market, Canada, and eventually the United States.

The 30 ml Bottle That Built a Brand

While we offer Premium Rubber Base in 15 ml, 30 ml and 60 ml sizes, one volume outsells every other: Premium 30 ml.

There’s a reason. For working salon techs, 30 ml hits the perfect intersection of value and freshness. It lasts a busy 4-6 weeks of daily use, costs less per application than the 15 ml format, and doesn’t sit on the shelf long enough to lose its working properties. Most pro studios end up reordering Premium 30 ml on a monthly cycle, like clockwork.

If you’re new to GLOSS, the 30 ml is the variant we recommend starting with.

One Formula. Four Variations.

The Premium formula is the bestseller, but it’s not the only option. Over the years, we expanded the line to cover edge cases nail techs face every week:

  • Hard Base — denser, more structural. The right choice for thin, peeling, or post-acrygel-removal nails.
  • Low-Acid Base — gentler prep. Used by techs who want less harshness on the natural nail plate.
  • HEMA-Free Base — the answer to the growing problem of HEMA allergies. Same retention, no monomer-related sensitization.

All four use the same base technology, which is why they pair seamlessly under any GLOSS gel polish or builder gel.

What’s Stayed the Same

In 11 years, we’ve resisted the temptation to “modernize” the Premium Rubber Base formula. It works. It works on the same nails it worked on in 2015 — and on the new nail trends of 2026. The viscosity, the cure profile, the adhesion, the clarity — unchanged.

What has changed is everything around the product: better packaging, faster shipping, US warehousing for nationwide same-week delivery, and a complete system of compatible products (top coats, builder gel, prep liquids) that work with the base instead of fighting against it.

Now Made for the US Market

For years, US nail techs ordered Premium Rubber Base through international shipping with 2-3 week delivery times. In 2024, we opened a US warehouse and began carrying the full Premium Rubber Base lineup domestically.

Today, every Premium Rubber Base order ships from the US within 1-2 business days. The trademark is officially registered in the United States, and our Amazon listings have crossed 4+ star ratings with over 200 reviews in the first 18 months — the same response we saw in every other market the brand entered.

How to Try It

If you’re a working nail tech and you’ve been searching for a rubber base that actually holds, start with our Premium Rubber Base 30 ml. Use it with our nail dehydrator and primer, cap the free edge, cure for 60 seconds per layer, and seal with GLOSS top coat.

You’ll know within a month whether your retention is where it should be — and why this single product has been our bestseller for over a decade.
