Lift-free manicures start with prep. The GLOSS Nail Prep set pairs our dehydrator and primer — the two products every working tech needs to remove oils, balance the nail’s pH, and create a stronger bond between the natural nail and the base coat.

Use the dehydrator first to strip oils and moisture, then a thin layer of primer for adhesion. Both formulas dry in seconds, leaving the nail ready for base. Available individually or as a set.

How to Use

  1. Push back cuticles, buff the nail surface lightly.
  2. Apply nail dehydrator with the brush. Let dry for 20–30 seconds.
  3. Apply a thin layer of primer. Wait 30 seconds until tacky.
  4. Apply rubber base coat and continue.

Specifications

  • Includes: Nail dehydrator + primer (set)
  • Volumes: 15 ml / 0.5 oz each
  • Compatible with: All GLOSS bases, builder gels, acrygel

Frequently asked questions

What is the correct order to use the nail prep products?

The correct prep sequence is: 1) Clean nails with GLOSS Cleanser to remove oils. 2) Apply GLOSS Nail Prep Dehydrator to fully dehydrate the nail plate. 3) Apply GLOSS Nail Primer to balance pH and create the bond layer for your base coat. Follow immediately with your chosen base coat.

Do I need to use both the dehydrator and the primer?

For most clients, yes. The dehydrator removes surface moisture and oils, while the primer creates chemical adhesion for the base coat. Using both maximizes gel retention and minimizes lifting. Clients with very dry, thin, or problematic nails especially benefit from the full prep sequence.

Is the GLOSS Nail Primer acid-free?

GLOSS offers one Nail Primer, which balances the nail’s pH and creates the bond layer for your base coat. Check the product label for full formula details.

How long does the primer need to dry before applying base coat?

Apply primer in a thin layer and allow it to become tacky-dry (usually 30–60 seconds) before applying your base coat. Do not cure primer under a lamp — it activates through air drying only.

Can I use GLOSS Nail Prep with any brand of gel polish?

Yes. GLOSS Nail Prep Dehydrator and Primer work with any professional gel polish system. However, for guaranteed compatibility and maximum adhesion results, we recommend using the full GLOSS system: prep, rubber base, gel polish, and top coat.

How much product do I apply per nail?

Apply a thin, even layer of dehydrator to the entire nail plate, avoiding the skin. Let dry. Repeat with primer. Avoid flooding the cuticle area with either product. A little goes a long way — a single brush stroke per nail is usually sufficient.

Love it!!!

I love this gel polish base and top coat! The ideal consistency makes application easy and smooth. It’s incredibly long-lasting—my clients wear it for 6+ weeks without chips! The short brush is perfect for precise work. Highly recommend!

Base and top coat set

This base and top coat set for UV nails has an odd basecoat brush. The basecoat bristles are short, and they left the base coat application very streaky. They are good sized bottles for the price, but the odd base coat brush did not work for me.

Great top coat, awful base coat!

Both the base and top coats in this set are VERY thick. I like this in a top coat as it smooths irregular surfaces and can hide minor defects, but in a base coat, the thick consistency is just annoying. Oddly, the base coat also has a tiny, square brush. I thought this might help control the application, but it actually makes it harder to get full, even coverage, and it seemed to make the gel stringy. In fact, after using this product twice, the application on the second set was so lumpy and clumpy, I had to remove it and start over. I ultimately threw the base coat away. The top coat, on the other hand, has a regular sized brush that evenly applies a nice, thick top layer that is super glossy. I discovered that once I have the top coat on all 5 fingers, I can turn my hand over and let it level out. Honestly, this product does a fantastic job of smoothing out my nail art that’s prone to uneven surfaces due to the multiple layers of gel used to create the tiny designs! It's not as thick as a builder's gel in a bottle, but it comes close! And, after 2 weeks, my nails were still just as shiny and glossy as the day I first did them! Also, while smells don't bother me, both of these gels have a mid-level odor, so if you're sensitive to smells, beware. Overall, love the top coat, hate the base coat!

Love the Top Coat

The top coat is my favorite and easiest to use. I love the curved brush and the thinner consistency of the gel top coat. Very shiny and no bubbles. I used one coat over a nude gel polish color. The base coat is a little harder to use, as it is on the thicker side. I also don't like the stiff, shorter brush head. They have no strong odor and they cure fast with my UV light. Good size and heavy duty bottles.

I’ve finally found my 'holy grail' nail system with GLOSS Rubber Base and GLOSS Top Coat

Why I highly recommend them:• Self-Leveling Magic: The base has a dream-like consistency. It’s thick enough to build a beautiful apex but fluid enough to smooth itself out perfectly, saving me so much filing time.• Unbeatable Shine: The top coat provides an 'aquarium effect'—that deep, crystal-clear gloss that stays mirror-bright for 3+ weeks without dulling or scratching.• No More Lifting: The adhesion is incredible. Even after three weeks of daily chores, I have zero lifting at the cuticles or chipping at the free edge.• Gentle Wear: Unlike some other professional brands, I notice no heat spike in the lamp, making the process much more comfortable.

No issues here.

This is a UV product. If you do not properly cure it will stay sticky.I've used this product for a bit not because I'm trying to grow my nails out but my nails are super thin. And i don't want to have to run to the salon anytime I need my nails done so this was an option I decided to try. And I really do enjoy it. It does have quite the smell so use in a well ventilated area. But definitely helps against breakage.

Short brush 😍 WOW !

Base applies perfectly with its ideal consistency and short brush. The durability is impressive—lasts up to 5 weeks without chipping. Very satisfied!

A winner and a loser in the same set

I had a hard time deciding how I feel about this set. I like the top coat a lot. It goes on evenly, isn't too thin or too thick, self-levels, cures quickly, and still looks great ten days later. On the other hand, the base coat is a monster to work with. It's really thick and has a very strange brush. There's just no way to get a thin, even coat applied and heat spikes are definitely a problem because of it. So I'd get the top coat again in a heartbeat, but never want to see the base coat again. Ultimately, I went with three stars because both have a fairly strong odor. Not unusual with this type of thing, but there are brands with minimal odor that work great. Why put up with that strong scent if you don't have to, especially if half the set is practically unusable?

This polish is great

This polish is very long lasting. It does burn your nails when you put it on. It doesn’t damage the nail but stings a little when under the light. I would buy it again because it looks nice and is long lasting.

Nice Size Bottles

For the price you can't beat this duo of base and top coat, the only problem I have is that the base coat brush is so stubby and I found it just a little difficult to work with, the top coat is very nice and shiny, but for the amount, quality and price it's unbeatable.

Nice sized bottles UPDATE

These are nice sized bottles of base and top coat. They are for UV polish manicures, so you need a light to cure them. They work as advertised and I'm happy with the results.UPDATE: The top coat has been completely great, but the brush on the base coat broke and fell into the bottle on the first use, so the whole bottle of base coat has been wasted. Docking my rating from 5 to 3 stars because of not being able to use half the product.
